Verso una Carta dei Diritti per la Laguna di Venezia

Può un corpo d’acqua avere diritti? Può uno strumento legale aiutare a superare l’apparente separazione fra esseri umani ed ecosistemi nella laguna urbana di Venezia?

🌊 Traendo ispirazione dal caso pionieristico del Mar Menor, una grande laguna costiera nel Sud della Spagna, il primo ecosistema Europeo ad ottenere i diritti della natura, un'iniziativa cittadina nata da una vasta rete di associazioni sta scrivendo una carta dei diritti per la Laguna di Venezia.

Ocean Space ospita la rete cittadina che da mesi lavora alla stesura della carta dei diritti, aprendosi a un momento di confronto con un gruppo di esperti, accademici e attivisti.

Durante l'evento la bozza di questo documento sarà analizzata sotto diversi punti di vista, avanzando i lavori di scrittura verso una bozza finale, che sarà presentata al pubblico entro la fine dell'anno.

Can a body of water have its own set of rights? Can a legal instrument help overcome the perceived separation between humans and ecosystems in an urban lagoon like Venice?

🌊 Drawing inspiration from the pioneering case of the Mar Menor, a large coastal lagoon in southern Spain, the first European ecosystem to obtain rights of nature, a citizen initiative born from a vast network of associations is drafting a charter of rights for the Lagoon of Venice.

Ocean Space hosts the citizen network that has been working for months on drafting the charter of rights, opening up to a moment of discussion with a group of experts, academics, and activists.

During the event, the draft of this document will be analyzed from different points of view, advancing the writing work towards a final draft, which will be presented to the public by the end of the year.

❗ The event is co-organized with the scientific support of THE NEW INSTITUTE Center for Environmental Humanities (NICHE, Ca' Foscari University of Venice) and the UNESCO Chair on Water Heritage and Sustainable Development, key partners in the development of the project to draft this document.
