UNTITLED presents a new series of black and white paintings by Luxembourgish artist Monique Becker (*1958). Monique Becker’s large-scale paintings are built through layers of thick, textured paint that form dense, almost sculptural surfaces. For Becker, black is far from neutral—it is a charged, deliberate choice, rich with meaning. The paintings don’t tell a clear story, instead, they ask the viewer to slow down, look closely, and engage with what’s hidden beneath the surface. The artist’s process of layering becomes a way of both revealing and concealing—an ongoing negotiation between control and vulnerability. Beckers’ work resists quick interpretation, it demands time, attention, and a willingness to feel - like an intimate encounter. Through abstraction, she explores the complexity of emotion, memory, and the unspoken.
Monique Becker has studied Fine Art at the Academy of Fine Art Kolbermoor, Germany, under Hermann Nitsch, Markus Lüpertz and Siegfried Anzinger. Recent projects include a solo museum show at Museo Emilio Caraffa, in Cordoba, Argentina (2024) and a new monographic publication ‘She dwells in the dark’ (2025). Becker’s work is present in the Collection of MUDAM, Museum of Contemporary Art Luxembourg and the Ministry of Culture, Luxembourg.
The exhibition runs from 18 September until 25 October 2025
