About this Event
Vernal pools are one of Sonoma County’s hidden gems. Each year is different for vernal pool flora, which depend on many factors such as timing and total amount of rainfall, and daytime temperatures, to name a few. During this fun and exploratory field outing we will marvel in the tiny blooming botanical wonders and talk about vernal pool conservation goals and challenges. For this outing we will explore oak woodland, grasslands and seasonal wetland habitat at a private preserve Fox Hollow and City of Santa Rosa Youth Community Park in northwest Santa Rosa where we are likely to see many different native vernal pool flowers and grasses, including the endangered Sonoma sunshine. Walking distance will be relatively short over uneven terrain with frequent kneeling and crouching to look at the small plants. (Location of outing subject to change due to conditions.)
