Join us on January 18th at 2pm for a special program, "Vermonters Ahead. The 172nd and the Invasion of Luzon, Philippines 1945", presented by military historians Myric McBain and Cori Santagate. This program is free to the public, donations to the SAHS welcomed. This presentation will focus on the events surrounding the allied invasion of Luzon and experiences of the 172nd as well as the weapons and equipment they used. Afterward there will be a Q&A session with the presenters, as well as a chance to see military artifacts from the period.
About our presenters - Myric McBain has been writing, researching, and speaking on numerous aspects of cultural and psychological history for more than 25 years. He was trained by the United States Air Force in the Aerospace Historian program, where he prepared historical mission reports for the U.S. Air Force Historical Research Agency at Maxwell Air Force Base, the National Guard Bureau in Washington D.C., and the Joint Forces Headquarters in Indianapolis, Indiana. His current research focus is the effect of historical mass-trauma events on individuals and communities, how societies have understood these events, the long-term changes these events have created within cultures, and what methods were used to mitigate the psychological and societal damages those events caused. Myric lives in New Hampshire, where he writes the Facebook page Historia Obscurum (facebook.com/HistoriaObscurum).
Cori Santagate was born and raised in Northern New York and has been involved in living history for the past twenty years. He received his Bachelor's Degree in history from SUNY New Paltz in 2009. Cori worked at the Fort at No. 4 Living History Museum in Charlestown, New Hampshire as a historical interpreter and educational guide for local school groups before pursuing a career in law enforcement. Cori's interests and expertise in military history ranges from ancient Rome through the Second World War, with a focus on the material culture and personal experiences of the common soldier. He has developed historical impressions from numerous time periods for educational displays and demonstrations with an emphasis on hands-on learning.
