The Heinz Poll Summer Dance Festival presents Verb, “Ohio Contemporary Ballet” at Forest Lodge Park in Akron on July 29 & 30, 2022.
About this Event

The free summer park performances will feature Heinz Poll’s exquisite Rococo Variations—the only classical ballet the Ohio Ballet founder ever choreographed. This ballet, restaged by Richard Dickinson, Verb’s Associate Artistic Director and former Ohio Ballet dancer, is complemented by English-style tutus and a live recording of former Ohio Ballet Music Director, David Fisher on piano. The company will also perform Pas de Dix, based on Petipa’s original choreography of Raymonda’s last act celebrating the nuptials, for the first time live. The extremely technical work features a series of dances for an ensemble of eight and two principal dancers. Verb will also premiere an excerpt of a new ballet debuting this fall. Guests are invited to bring blankets and/or a chair. On stage children's activities lead by Dance Institute start at 7:45pm. Forest Lodge Park is located at 260 Greenwood Ave, Akron, OH 44313.

Continuing Akron’s unique year tradition of presenting free dance performances in the parks during the summer, The Heinz Poll Summer Dance Festival has been established to honor the legacy of the legendary founding Artistic Director of Ohio Ballet. Free public performances by respected Ohio dance companies, each presenting a unique dance experience, reflect the common thread of Poll’s commitment to the highest artistic standards.Since the 2006 demise of Ohio Ballet’s Summer Festival that was founded in 1974 and supported by the City of Akron since 1975, there was no ready outlet for dance in Akron.
