Dear Members and Friends,We are delighted to invite you to the 2024 edition of the Velvet Night. This will take place at Somerville College, Oxford on 9th November 2024.
The Velvet Night is the greatest annual event of the OUCSS held to celebrate the anniversary of the Velvet Revolution: a milestone in the Czech and Slovak history which lasted from November to December 1989 and resulted in a unique, peaceful transition to our current democratic regime. Every year, we welcome Czech and Slovak students, alumni, and any friends of our society, to celebrate this historical moment with a formal dinner at one of our beautiful Oxford colleges. And there is more – every year, a distinguished guest arrives to share their memories of the revolution, their perception of democracy, and more.
*Who is our distinguished guest for 2024?*
