Smultronställe: Vegan Swedish Bites & Wines from Unexpected Countries
About this Event

The Swedish language is full of beautiful words that have no English equivalent. One of those is 'smultronställe'. The literal translation is a wild strawberry patch, but its figurative meaning is a special place that very few people know about, one in which you find solace and relaxation. For those who have been to our tasting before, you'll know that our happy place is found in doing things a little differently. So, there will be no French, Italian, Spanish or American wines at this tasting, we'll be partnering Scandi canapés with an eclectic mix of wines from off the beaten track. Join us for one night in our smultronställe.

The food will be created by Rickard Daun, who launched Dauns in 2018. In December 2021, he opened up his first brick-and-mortar establishment in E1, not far from Spitalfields. The world’s first fully vegan Scandi-inspired eatery was born!

The wine pairings will be curated by Tom Ottey. Some of you might remember him from the vegan cheese and wine tasting evenings at 10 Cable Street. 15 years of adventures in the wine industry took him from selling wines at Oddbins in Edinburgh to chasing wine skins out of a winepress with powerhose in Kent, and from talking his way past armed guards patrolling a vineyard in Ethiopia to a zoom call with Kylie Minogue. Along the way, he came to the conclusion that wine snobbery is ridiculous and that putting animal bits into wine – or anything for that matter – is weird. He’s also a massive fan of the tunnbrödsrulle at Dauns.

Their last three shows sold out rapidly. So, don’t miss the chance to try some great wines paired with small nibbles from Dauns.
