Alexia and Eddie are facing 10 years of prison (and deportation in Alexia’s case) for spraying water based paint on the treasury.
On the very same day the Jackdaw oil field they were protesting was ruled unlawful, Eddie and Alexia have been found guilty of causing £100,000 of damage with water-based paint to the building. (Can’t emphasise enough the water based bit, I mean £100000? Are they having a laugh?)
Despite the outlawing of Jackdaw, the Judge said that Eddie and Alexia’s motivations for carrying out the action were irrelevant and directed the jury to ignore them.
Alexia is an Italian citizen living in the UK with her husband and two young children (aged 6 and 9) whom they raise together, alongside running a market garden.
Not only is her husband now likely to be left to shoulder the full weight of their business and childcare, the family could soon need to battle the threat of Alexia’s deportation to Italy if she’s sentenced to 12 months in prison.
Eddie, 27 years old, has stepped up and taken action again and again. He’s given everything to resist climate collapse and has faced both the courts and the media to fight new oil and gas.
After a year of severe personal and financial hardship, he is struggling to make ends meet and is in real need of financial support while awaiting his sentence.
