About this Event
VAT: it’s a simple tax. Join our Chamber session for Charities.
Are you a charity struggling to navigate the complexities of VAT? This VAT session is delivered by the expert VAT specialist team from Xeinadin – the name may be new but the VAT team there are familiar faces to charities and businesses across Wales. Liz Maher O.B.E and Drew Shrimpton will be presenting this free to access session for the Welsh charity network in conjunction with Chambers Wales.
The team will cover the following:
- Back to Basics – Applying the VAT exemption for charity fund raising. Charities do not have to charge VAT on income that qualifies as Exempt Fund Raising but what are the criteria and the implications for VAT recovery on costs?
- Business vs Non-business activities - VAT needs to be considered when you make a business supply as a charity – but what does the word “business” actually mean?
- Charity reliefs - What can charities save VAT on – there’s no “I don’t pay VAT I’m a Charity” automatic rule so it’s important to identify what VAT reliefs a charity can access and what evidence they must provide a supplier.
- Taxable supplies – the pros and cons of VAT registration – Often Charities dread VAT registration so what are the upsides?
As well as a discussion on these four key areas that crop up repeatedly for their charity clients, Drew and Liz will be on hand for a short Q & A – and always say “there’s no such thing as a silly VAT question” so do come along for this unique opportuntiy to network with fellow charities and learn about all things VAT.
(Whilst it’s an open Forum space is limited so please do register early).
