JOIN BLHC as we do an actual tour of the Vanderbilt Mansion on 5/11! The idea came to us in mid-April when we hiked the trail.
on 5/11, our group will meet in front of the Visitor Center at 8:45am and wait for the doors to open at 9. You'll be responsible for the $15 entrance fee (credit/debit only). If you own a national parks pass, you may use it (and it can cover you + an extra two people!) The tickets are first come first serve, which is why we will wait by the visitor center at 8:45am. In the interim before the tour begins at 10am, we will take a short walk to the flower gardens and get a chance to explor the mansion's exterior. At 9:45 we will meet back at the visitor center.
Tour Details
The tour presents about eighteen rooms on three floors of the mansion. Occasionally, specific rooms or floors may be unavailable or unfurnished for preservation work. Check with a ranger at the Visitor Center for information about possible preservation impacts. The Vanderbilt Mansion is not air-conditioned and can get quite warm in the summer months.
<h4>Preservation Restrictions and Conditions</h4>- Baby strollers, "Gerry" carriers, or infant carriers with handles are not permitted in the mansion.
- Backpacks and parcels (including purses, briefcases, diaper bags, camera bags) that exceed 11" x 15" in either dimension are not permitted in the mansion.
- The public may not carry open containers of food or beverages in the Vanderbilt Mansion. Water bottles are permitted, but must remain sealed and contained at all times while inside buildings with museum collections.
- Photography is permitted inside the mansion, but we ask that you refrain from using your flash. Selfie Sticks and Tripods are not permitted on the public tour.
Accessibility Info
The mansion is accessible via a mechanical chair lift for entrance into the building and a historic elevator inside the mansion for access to all floors. The chair lift and elevator are occasionally out of operation while awaiting repair service. You may wish to contact the park to confirm status of the elevator and chair lift prior to your visit.
