About this Event
You might already know that apartments are illegal on most of Vancouver's residential land. But did you know that some neighbourhoods have gone further by effectively zoning for mansions that are many times more expensive than even the average multi-million-dollar westside Vancouver house?
On Saturday, September 20, join us for a walking tour through West Point Grey. We'll tour the ultra-exclusionary Belmont Avenue and Drummond Drive neighbourhood and discuss the City of Vancouver policies that keep it out of reach for most. We'll head to a pub on West Broadway after.
If participants have their own stories about this uniquely exclusionary enclave, we invite you to share them as we walk.
The walk itself is about 2km, and it begins and ends near the Blanca and 4th/Chancellor, where both the 44 and 84 stop. The 99 stop at Blanca is a 15-minute walk. There is ample parking for bikes and cars both.
We'll meet at Blanca Street and Belmont Avenue (NW corner), in West Point Grey, Vancouver. http://maps.google.com/maps?q=49.2737899%2C-123.2148555
