There's a chance to pressure the park Board commissioners to freeze the logging project. There will be a vote at the October 7, 2024 meeting at 6:30 PM. 2099 Beach, Vancouver.
Citizens are entitled to speak for five minutes. Adavnce signup is required.
Talking points to consider:
City staff secretly obtaining $11.1 million from the general revenue stabilization reserve on May 28, 2024, is unacceptable.
The conflict of interest where B.A. Blackwell & Associates did the assessment and then became the logging contractor is unacceptable. The greater the claimed risk, the higher the profits.
Railroading the logging operation through without scientific review from non-foresters, and without a public process, is unacceptable.
I demand that the Park Board follow through with its promise of transparency and put a hold on further logging until a public panel of experts in forest ecology, ecosystem sustainability, soil health, integrated pest management, forest microclimate, and climate change adaptation presents evidence-based options.
