There are LOTS of sketching opportunities… water, trees, boats, engineering, buildings, cafés…
If it’s engineering stuff you want to sketch, then there’s Valentine Bridge (built in 2000) - a steel cable-stayed bridge that carries pedestrians and cyclists across Bristol's Floating Harbour close to Temple Meads railway station. Alongside the bridge/Bristol Ferry Boat stop is a large, stepped sitting area.
The adjoining tree-lined Temple Back runs along the floating harbour (parts of it are under cover/below bridges etc) – so there are lots of narrow boats just waiting to be drawn.
Nearby there’s also Temple Meads station and, without actually needing to enter the station itself, there’s the old Engine Shed (now used for car parking) which provides sketching opportunities – especially in the event of rain!!
The area is bounded by office buildings, a piazza and cafés (and, of course, there’s also the wonderful Hart’s Bakery (Arch 35, Lower Approach Road, Bristol BS1 6QS) on the other side of Temple Meads station.
It’s difficult to do justice to the sketching opportunities in a single photograph!

We’ll meet on the Temple Meads side of Valentine Bridge at 12noon.
