Noise Reduction presents: Valentina Magaletti Solo
Valentina Magaletti is a Drummer-composer a multi-instrumentalist and one of the most exciting and versatile voices in experimental music today. Known for her collaborations with artists like Radiohead’s Philip Selway and a wide range of projects from the psychedelic pop band Vanishing Twin to Holy Tongue and Moin, Valentina brings a fresh, boundary-pushing and decisively feminist approach to drumming that defies convention.
As a drummer Magaletti is often called versatile, but it’s more accurate to say she is insatiably hungry to play, with the grounding to carve out a distinctive style wherever she places herself, moving effortlessly between the seemingly disparate worlds of alternative and mainstream music.
She is interested in things feeling slightly off, or impenetrable. She has been compared to Jaki Liebezeit and has filled his shoes in the Can Project. She names American jazz drummer, percussionist and professor Milford Graves as a key influence, for extending what drums meant, not just physically, but also poeticall. «A kind of Fluxus energy – that’s what I’m after. Everything is so often in a grid, but drums are physical: it’s just you and your environment; your body versus an object», she says.
Violeta García & Hora Lunga
The composers Violeta García and Hora Lunga crossed paths by chance in 2023 and began exchanging music shortly afterwards. They quickly realised how their musical languages clung to each other like two familiar souls, complementing, intertwining and merging. Now, the partnership between the two artists has resulted in the debut album «I'll Wait For You In The McDonald's Car Park», which will be released on -OUS on April 25. It is an album of extremes, drawing listeners in and pushing them away. From gauzy textures to screaming strings, interspersed with samples and electronic instruments, the sound shapes a body that vibrates, writhes and dances.
Violeta García is a cellist, improviser and composer from Buenos Aires, Argentina. She is now based in Spain and tours a lot with her band Blanco Teta. Violeta García is a performer in many art forms, including free improvisation, contemporary and trans-media experimental repertoire in violoncello and electronics and collaborations with dancers, film makers and visual artists. After years of studying classical and popular music on violoncello and, later, contemporary composition and improvisation, Violeta has developed her own musical voice beyond specific genres.
Throughout Swiss composer and musician Hora Lunga's work, the focus lies on exploring boundaries, both musically and in terms of performance and content. Above all, genre designations lose all meaning, as the music always takes place within a dramaturgically conceived framework, inviting the listener to embark on a journey through different emotional states and musical categories. In recent years, his projects have ranged from pop music productions to experimental works and sound performances. Hora Lunga also composed for theatre and film productions. His ensemble WIRREN consists of up to fifteen performers.
