Our modern day way of life leaves many of us dealing with chronic stress which interferes with the balance of our nervous system and our ability to process stress physiologically. The inability to adequately regulate the stress response is correlated with increased inflammation in the body which leads to many chronic health conditions, such as IBS, rheumatoid arthritis, cardiovascular disease, depression, anxiety and many others.
The vagus nerve plays a central role in your nervous system and therefore in your physical and emotional health. What research tells us is that healthy vagal tone leads to optimal balance in your nervous system and allows you to respond with resilience to the everyday stressors of life.
In this class, we focus on stimulating the vagus nerve through mindful body awareness, conscious breathing, and mindful movement. The goal of vagus nerve yoga is to increase the flexibility of your nervous system. The hope is that you will leave class with a sense of balance and well being and reshape your nervous system over time to better manage stress!
