Welcome our guest speaker, and our VAGF 2025 Fresh Start juror, Cat Rigdon!
Topic: The Art of Remembering: Archiving for Artistic Legacy
How does an artist ensure their work and ideas endure beyond the present moment?
In The Art of Remembering, Cat Rigdon explores the crucial role of archiving in preserving an artist’s legacy. Drawing from years of experience at Heritage Auctions—where she handled historical and culturally significant objects—and her current role as Manager of Development & Marketing at The Cedars Union, she offers insights into the power of documentation, material culture, and strategic preservation.
As an artist whose practice integrates historical documents and artifacts, Cat understands firsthand how the past informs creative identity. This lecture will provide practical strategies for artists to catalog their work, create meaningful records, and establish a lasting presence in the art world. Whether you're anemerging artist or an established creator, The Art of Remembering will help you build a foundation for a legacy that endures.
