The Virginia African American Cultural Center, Inc. will hold its Third Annual Golf Tournament fundraiser on Thursday, June 13, 2024, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Cypress Point Country Club, 5340 Club Head Road, in Virginia Beach. The golf tournament is being held to raise money to build this state-of-the-art center off Newtown Road in Virginia Beach. From 2-4 p.m., following the awards luncheon, award-winning jazz saxophonist Talton Manning will perform live at the country club.
Board Members are looking for sponsors for the event. Sponsorships range from $5,000 for top sponsors to $200 for hole sponsors. Sponsors will enjoy significant recognition at the golf tournament and in the center’s marketing package for the event.
Teams of four can also sign up for $400 or individual golfers can join in for $125 apiece. People can donate money to the cause, as well, without golfing. This event will serve to aid in the continuance of the VAACC’s programming, community events and building the Virginia African American Cultural Center, to be located 744 Hampshire Lane, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23462. The VAACC is a non-profit, 501(c)(3).
The mission of the Virginia African American Cultural Center is: “To collect, preserve, interpret, inform and celebrate Virginia’s African American history, culture and community and to educate the public about African Americans’ contributions in all areas of endeavor.”
The Virginia African American Cultural Center will be a place where residents and visitors can learn about the richness and diversity of the African American experience relating to their lives, historically, aesthetically and culturally. The Center will transcend race and unite the history of many older communities by sharing stories that shaped the fabric of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
