Join us for the first concert of the UVic Wind Symphony and the UVic Symphony Orchestra’s 2024/25 season!Steven Capaldo conducts the UVic Wind Symphony in works by Philip Sparke, Robert Buckley, Thierry Deleruyelle, Sally Greenaway, and a world premiere commission composed by UVic Music Education student Eilish McAree. This program celebrates the uninhibited approach these composers have taken in their writing.
Lead by maestro Ajtony Csaba, the UVic Symphony Orchestra (UViSO) opens the season celebrating music as a bridge that overarches space, time and conventions. UViSO will take an unconventional approach to performing Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 2 in D Major, punctuating the interstices with interludes by UVic students. Beethoven’s Symphony No. 2 is a masterpiece that marks a turning point in classical music. Composed during a time of personal turmoil, this work is a testament to Beethoven’s resilience and creative power. The symphony is filled with energetic rhythms, lyrical melodies, and bold harmonies that will captivate your heart and mind.
