'Klara and the Bomb' er et fotografisk og historisk verk som kartlegger koblinger mellom oppfinnelsen av datamaskiner, atomvåpen og spesielt fortellingene til kvinnene som er involvert. Disse sammenhengende historiene fortelles gjennom det lite kjente livet til Klara von Neumann, som kom til USA etter å ha giftet seg med den kjente matematikeren John von Neumann. Som en av de første dataprogrammererne fremhever Klaras historie i hvilken grad kvinner var involvert i utviklingen av både data- og atomvåpen fra 1940-tallet og utover.
Kunstner Crystal Bennes (US) kombinerer feltarbeidsbilder med arkivforskning, deklassifiserte papirer, militær propaganda, historiske bilder og en omfattende tekstfortelling for å bringe disse historiene til live. Inkludert en samtale med vitenskapshistoriker Peter Galison.

Klara and the Bomb is a photographical and historical work that charts connecting threads between the invention of modern computers, the history of nuclear weapons and, in particular, the narratives of the women involved.
These interconnected stories are told through the little-known life of Klara von Neumann, who came to the United States after marrying the noted mathematician John von Neumann. As one of the first computer programmers, Klara’s story highlights the extent to which women were involved in the development of both computing and nuclear weapons from the 1940s onwards.
Artist Crystal Bennes (US) combines fieldwork images with archival research, declassified papers, military propaganda, historical images and an extensive textual narrative to bring these stories to life. Including a conversation with historian of science Peter Galison.
