Join us for a fascinating free online event where we'll delve into the complex topic of nationalism across the Americas.
USSO's Book Hour joins UCL ResNet's one-day Conference entitled , to speak with the co-authors Robert Schertzer and Eric Taylor Woods about their new book:
USSO are proud to collaborate with the UCL Research American Network to launch a special collaborative instalment of USSO’s Book Hour. As part of a packed day of events for the Network’s 2024 Annual Conference, ‘Historical Roots and Modern Realities: Nationalism across the Americas’. Robert Schertzer and Eric Taylor Woods will be discussing their new book (Oxford University Press, 2023).
Schertzer and Taylor Woods, together with co-hosts, offer a careful analysis of the social media campaigns of Donald Trump, Marine Le Pen, and the Brexit campaigners, which shows how today's new nationalists are cultivating support from white majorities by tapping into their history and culture. Our panel of experts will explore this cutting-edge and multidisciplinary approach that combines elements of political science, sociology, history, and communication and media studies, to show how leaders today are updating the historical foundations of ethnic nationalism for the digital age.
Don't miss out on this insightful discussion!
