About this Event
Come to Town Hall Tunbridge Wells for an interesting workshop - “Boosting your marketing with storytelling”
Are you sitting comfortably?
Then we’ll begin.
Storytelling is one of the best ways to convey your brand message in an engaging
and memorable way.
But why? And how can you tell stories about your business? Discuss!
Nicola from The Writers’ Studio will walk us through how she uses storytelling in
website copy, blog writing and newsletters.
Lucy from Smartist Social Media will share how storytelling can be a powerful force
in social media marketing. With social media we love authenticity and we want to
be entertained across all social media platforms. What better way to do this than by
telling a story.
We share our tips for finding your stories and shaping them into marketing stories
that sell.

Lucy Ames - Smartist Social Media - Tunbridge Wells
After a ‘squiggly’ career Lucy realised her future was in social media marketing. She had spent 20 years in IT delighting clients by understanding their needs then ran her own business selling her paintings for 10 years, and teaching herself social media to do so. Social Media Management brought together artistic flair, technical skills and client account management into one perfect role. She founded Smartist (‘the Social Media Artist’) in 2020 having already built up a freelance portfolio of clients and experienced work with companies of all sizes.
Smartist is now a boutique agency who specialise in working with local SME’s. They have carved out a niche in the sectors of property and people.
Most clients have full management which means Smartist do all their content creation, posting, engagement and KPI tracking. For other clients Smartist support an in-house Marketing team becoming an integral part of their marketing function. They also offer workshops such as ‘Start Up’, the ‘Content Creator’ and ‘Social Media MOT’ to meet clients with ad-hoc needs.
Lucy prides herself that her whole Smartist team have a flair for creative thinking, imagery and writing which is why they have been successful at helping brands stand out from the crowd online.
Nicola Withers - The Writers' Studio - Tunbridge Wells
Nicola’s obsession with words, grammar and spelling started at an early age when she used
to correct letters her friends wrote to her. Something she’s not particularly proud of today,
but it started her on a path to knowing she needed to work with words.
A Saturday job in the local library was the perfect calling – all that alphabetisation! – as was
her role at Puffin Books as Picture Book Editor. There may not be many words in a picture
book (especially The Snowman…) but every one needs to earn its place.
Fast forward to 2016 and the birth of The Writers’ Studio, a home for wordy Withers and her
trusted band of fellow wordsmiths. Now working with clients from dozens of different
industries, The Writers’ Studio crafts compelling copy, including websites, blogs and case
studies. Anything, really, that a business owner may need help in writing. And the grammar
police have got a bit more relaxed these days…
