Join us for a fun day with our community as we start working on our 2022 Legacy Project!
About this Event

Come join us for the groundbreaking of the 2022 Legacy Project! The Reverence Project’s Survivor’s Healing Garden will serve as a place of reflection and gathering for survivors of violent crime in the Watts neighborhood of Los Angeles. Featuring native California vegetation, meditative trails, pergolas and art installations, this green space will facilitate healing and restorative justice solutions among community members.

Join us from 9:00 AM-12:00 PM! We will be working in the shade to beat the heat, but please remember to bring your reusable water bottle.

The Survivor’s Healing garden will represent innovation in conservation, improve LA’s resilience, and protect human health. While LA actively protects “sensitive ecological areas,” this project illustrates the sensitivity of the overbuilt areas of LA. Watts experiences temperatures 4.7°F degrees hotter than the city average. The project will train Watts residents in the value of urban greenery and in the methods of civic engagement that will help secure funding for more of it. In addition to those actively engaged in its creation and our ongoing programming, signage will educate the passersby. Just as important, we will work to educate greater LA about the importance of equitably distributing urban greenery to the resilience of the region as a whole.

The began in 2016 with the goal of bridging the gap between social equity and environmental resiliency as we recognize certain communities are more impacted by effects of climate change. Historical injustices, de-facto segregation, and geographic location collaborate to create the resource disparities seen in Los Angeles today, making equity a critical component of building a sustainable city for all residents.
