About this Event

EXPO #19 highlighted the crucial need to incorporate a female perspective in the planning and development of public spaces, a viewpoint often overlooked or neglected.
The push for Rotterdam to be recognized as a National Park City is part of an international initiative that seeks to reimagine urban landscapes. This ambitious movement aims to transform cities into environments where nature thrives, benefiting both the planet and its inhabitants. But what does achieving National Park City status mean for Rotterdam? And importantly, how does the integration of women’s perspectives enhance this vision?
Key points from the discussion included:
- Creating connecting green spaces that integrate nature into the urban environment across the entire city, not just in specific areas.
- Shifting from a human-centered to a more ecological perspective.
- Acknowledging all aspects of nature, including the less appealing, such as rats attracted to our waste.
- Balancing the needs of people, animals, and plants.
- Focusing on how women's perspectives/experience can be more involved in the planning and development process.
The purpose of the workshop is to explore the various actors, with a focus on women, animals, and plants, that need to be considered when designing green public spaces in Rotterdam, and to understand their specific needs.
PS: Just a reminder that our Expos are women-only - sorry men, you are very welcome to our other events!
