About this Event

On Thursday, June 9th, 2022 @ 6:30pm, join the Urban Word Board of Directors and Urban Word Community for an illuminating evening of poetry, live entertainment, and revelry as we reconnect and celebrate with our community.

Catered by Pierre them of Tarango restaurant.

Discover the lived experiences of NYC is most prolific Youth and UW claimed alumnus.

Raffle prizes include one of a kind creations by our multi-disciplined youth.

Here's what your donation will provide:

$150 - sponsors one student in our free creative writing & college prep workshops

$250 - helps cover the cost of supplies and metrocards for our Youth Leadership Council

$500 - sponsors 5 youth in our free summer program on writing & performing with confidence

$750 - helps cover costs of our yearly NYC Teen Grand Slam (name listed in 2023 program)

$1000 - sponsors 6 weeks of Urban Word programming at a middle school or high school

All proceeds from this evening will support the work of Urban Word, which serves 25,000 teens annually by providing platforms for critical literacy, youth development and leadership, college prep and performance opportunities, and through the National Youth Poet Laureate program.

Urban Word champions, centers, elevates young marginalized voices as leaders at the intersection of the literary arts and civic engagement. Through the  transformative power of the written and spoken word, Urban Word provides young, creative voices, often those that are marginalized, the tools, training, and platforms to rewrite the narratives that shape their lives and their communities.

As one of the oldest and most comprehensive youth literary arts organizations in the United States, Urban Word and its national community of poets, activists, and educators, has built and continues to lead the youth spoken word movement.

Headquartered in New York City, Urban Word annually serves more than 25,000 NYC youth between the ages of 13 and 19 through its local and school-based programming efforts, and thousands of youth through its national programs including the National Youth Poet Laureate Program, its signature model for youth poetry and civic engagement replicated in communities across the country.
