Urban Walk along the Ion, K-W Hike 17kmToday we will walk along the entire length of the Ion route, from its south endpoint to its northern terminal. We will explore the fabric of Kitchener-Waterloo: residential areas; aged industrial neighbourhoods which are home to so many small companies; industrial wastelands; old city centres; vibrant cores; urban canyons; high-tech parks. Lots of concrete and asphalt – if you join hikes to get your dose of nature, sit this one out! We will stay as close as possible to the route of the Ion, except when there is no pedestrian way near it, in which case we’ll go a bit further afield. For the most part we will be staying on sidewalks, or on city trails in some areas. We will also explore the artwork that graces some of the Ion stations. Once we reach the Conestoga Mall station, we will hop on the Ion to go back to our starting point (fare is $3.25 cash, or bring your EasyGo card). Wear walking shoes (sneakers okay) and bring some water and a snack if you wish, and a hat and sunglasses if it’s sunny. And a mask to board the Ion.
