About this Event
Spanish & Hmong below.
Staple crops (corn, cereal grains and dry beans) play an integral role in our diets, agricultural communities and cultural identities.
Join two Michael Fields Agricultural Institute programs: MKE Urban Ag Network (MUAN) and Midwest GRIT; UW-Madison Extension Milwaukee County Urban Agriculture Program, and the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), for our second workshop on Urban Grain Production!
This workshop will cover harvest and post-harvest handling techniques for small grains, like wheat, oats, and more! We'll discuss milling and other processing needs to bring your grains from field to table, and NRCS will discuss the soil benefits of grains in your urban rotations, as well as other ways to increase soil health.
This event is for urban farmers, beginning farmers, and grain curious community members. Come prepared to get your hands dirty!
Spanish & Hmong interpretation is available upon request.
The third and final event in this series will include a maize harvest and community celebration (October). Registration for that workshop will be available approximately one month before the event.
