In this class, we will explore the critical practice of seed saving, particularly in the context of climate change and its implications for food sovereignty. Participants will learn about the genetic variability inherent in seeds, understanding how each one possesses unique traits that enhance biodiversity. We will cover essential techniques for storing seeds effectively, focusing on optimal temperature and humidity conditions, along with best practices for labeling to facilitate easy identification and preservation. By the end of our session, participants will have a newfound appreciation for seed saving—not only as a valuable skill for their gardening projects but also as a crucial strategy for sustaining our agricultural systems and ensuring a resilient future of the Urban Milpa. Special guest, Marlene Aguilar of Irekuarhikua.
