About this Event
Design Talk on Braver Together’s Evans Avenue Revitalization Plan and Brooks Clinic efforts:
The panel, having been involved with the Evans Avenue Revitalization Plan and 2021 Community Round tables, will share the Plan’s established vision to advance the growth of Evans Avenue as a business, cultural, and community hub, through coordinated public and private investments, including street and streetscape improvements along Evans Ave. between Rosedale St and AllenAve. The final Urban Design & Streetscape Plan for Evans Avenue will present development recommendations and a design concept shaped by community engagement, iterative design charrettes, data collection, and site analysis., The Plan will prioritize health, sustainability, equitable economic opportunities, and infrastructure improvements in hopes of revitalizing Evans Avenue, bridging its historically vibrant past with a promising future.
On the topic of prioritizing health, during our 2021 community roundtables, the community expressed their desire to have a healthcare home in their community. Moreover, they expressed loss over the absence of the once thriving Brooks Clinic that served many of their families for decades. Dr. Michael Brooks, a community ambassador and the son of Donald Brooks, who helped established the Historic Brooks Clinic along with Dr. Marion Brooks, has made it his mission to see the clinic restored and reopened to provide accessible healthcare to residents in 76104.
BRAVE/R Together has partnered with doctors, such as Dr. Danika Franks, and an architecture firm, HKS, to bring life to the dreams of Dr. Brooks by rebuilding the clinic that serves families of color in the 76104 community. Our goal is to establish a healthcare home that will serve as a beacon of hope for the community by providing a wellness care model as opposed to emergent sick care model.
