In the wake of the revival of the Black Lives Matter movement in 2020, the statues of major colonial and slave-owning figures have wavered everywhere. Symbols of a history that remain stuck in the throat and of a violence that persists have been tagged and painted in the colour of blood, dismantled or thrown into the sea. But the question of alternative monumentality, of counter-monuments, remains largely unexplored from an Afro-Caribbean perspective. This third day will look at this issue from the angle of the living practices of artists and the interventions of activists.

Les statues de grandes figures coloniales et esclavagistes ont vacillé un peu partout dans le sillage du renouveau du mouvement Black Lives Matter de 2020. Les symboles d’une histoire qui ne passe pas et d’une violence qui persiste ont été tagués et peints à la couleur du sang, déboulonnés ou jetés à la mer. Mais la question d’une monumentalité alternative, de contre-monuments, reste encore largement à explorer depuis la perspective afro-caribéenne. Elle est abordée durant cette troisième journée sous l’angle des pratiques vivantes des artistes et des interventions des activistes.
