The early 2010s were a transformative time for music. David Guetta and Calvin Harris dominated the charts as dance music exploded in popularity. The days of Eminem teaming up with Dr. Dre felt distant, and Snoop Dogg was now collaborating with pop icons. Everything was shifting.
In Hamilton, a passionate group of music lovers craved something rawer, more underground, and less mainstream. They were on the hunt for edgy and progressive sounds—new artists and genres that sparked excitement. This generation unearthed electronic music heroes like Skrillex, Zedd, Deadmau5, Diplo, and Porter Robinson, alongside rising stars like Dillon Francis, Flume, and Madeon, as a new wave of EDM surged through gritty nightclubs around the world.
Fast forward to 2025, and EDM has evolved into a diverse tapestry of genres, including future bass, melodic dubstep, DnB and tech house, taking the world by storm. Artists like Marshmello, Illenium, and Gryffin are leading the charge, while subgenres like hardstyle and bass house continue to grow in popularity. Festivals are now more immersive than ever, blending art and technology, creating unforgettable experiences for fans. Grassroots events like UPRISING at venues like The Back Bar remain crucial for nurturing this vibrant community and showcasing the passion that fuels the ever-evolving electronic music scene.
