This course runs over two Saturdays - 8th and 15th February 2025.What will I learn?
Have you ever turned unwanted objects or waste materials into entirely new products? Upcycling is the ideal way to combine creative ideas with a passion for sustainability and entrepreneurship. The course aims to show how several modern craft techniques and decorative finishing touches can be used to upcycle and update old everyday household items, making something old into something new and beautiful. Also included are ideas on how to market your items should you wish to. We will cover up to date commercial ideas that could transfer old furniture items from around the home into new and improved decorative items.
During the course you will learn:
• How to source furniture or other items to upcycle
• Tools and equipment required to carry out different tasks.
• How to prepare furniture and other items prior to painting them
• The different techniques for painting furniture
• Use of paints and finishes and colour items, decorative finishes and techniques and decoupage using paper to decorate items.
• Pricing your products
• How to market your completed products
• How to use social media to promote your business.
Is this course for me?
This course is for those who enjoy being creative and who would like to learn how to upcycle old items whilst meeting new people with a common interest.
What do I need to bring?
You will need to source a small wooden household item that you would like to upcycle. This could be for example a mirror, small table, chair, bedside cabinet. If you have any specific colours of paint or paper for decoupage you would like to use, feel free to bring these with you. If you would like to discuss the choice of your item with the tutor before the course starts, contact the enrolment team on 01296 383582 who will put you in contact with the tutor.
On day 1 we will prepare and paint the object and learn some of the techniques which will be used on the second day to complete the item.
It would be useful to either wear apron or old clothes as you may get messy when carrying out the work
We advise you not to purchase any additional equipment and materials until after the first session.
If this course runs over lunchtime, please bring your own packed lunch.

Additional costs: £5 each paid top the tutor at the start of the course to cover decorative materials used during the course.
