Flotsam Flo Christmas Decorations and Garland Workshop – 2 hours - £25 per personCelebrate the festive season with a creative twist at our Christmas Decorations and Garland Workshop! Located near Redruth, this 2 hour session offers a chance to learn how to craft unique decorations using upcycled plastic materials. We’ll be transforming hard-to-recycle plastics, such as banners and inflatables, into beautiful, one-of-a-kind holiday ornaments.
With a maximum of 3 participants per session, you’ll enjoy personalised guidance throughout the workshop. No prior sewing experience is required. You’ll explore our collection of materials, use templates to cut out shapes, and learn how to stitch and decorate your creations. Choose to make a variety of decorations or a festive garland/bunting to enhance your holiday décor. You'll leave with handmade items and new skills in design, upcycling, and sewing.
In this workshop, you will learn:
- How to use a sewing machine
- Health and safety in the workspace
- Techniques for sewing with plastic materials
- How to use simple patterns
- Drawing your own designs
- Using Appliqué for decorative elements
- Methods for upcycling plastic materials
No previous sewing knowledge is required. These sessions and the items we make, are for adults 18 and over, but we are planning workshops for younger participants in the future.

About your tutor:
Kate, the founder of Flotsam Flo, has been innovating with plastic materials for nthree years and has been using reclaimed material for many more years. With over a decade of teaching experience in Design and Technology, including Textiles at all key stages, Kate brings extensive expertise to her workshops. She is also a practicing artist and has recently led creative community workshops for 'Hellfire Kernow' in Redruth.
Important Safety Information:
The items you create in this workshop are intended for decoration only. Keep them away from naked flames, as they may be flammable. Additionally, these decorations are not toys and should be kept out of reach of children to ensure safety. Materials very likely to contain or be made of PVC.
What to bring:
You don’t need to bring anything, but if you have plastics, broken inflatables, or similar items you’d like to reuse, feel free to bring them along. We will primarily use materials like banners and inflatables.
