Elysium are delighted to present a fantastic evening of bluegrass & country music.
Up the Creek was formed by Alan Margetson (ex-Dusty Earth Band) and Tich (ex-Constitution Hillbillies) after a chance meeting on Swansea's Oxford Street. During this conversation they decided to put together a Bluegrass band...what could possibly go wrong?
They did a few gigs with compulsory percussionist Huw Rees (of every band in the area fame) and not long after they were joined by Ian ‘The Rev’ James on Bass (a local legend on the acoustic scene in Swansea) and Marc ‘sorry I’m late’ Elton on fiddle (also ex-Constitution Hillbillies) and the music started to take a very different direction.
The music is fun, up tempo and is a mix of Bluegrass standards mixed with popular songs from the 60s, 70s, 80s and worth watching if only for the bizarre face pulling on show during gigs.
Bluegrass Swansea Style! Yee Haa!
Support comes from the inestimable Jim Fox.
For over 40 years Jim has worked as a professional musician, performing throughout the UK and Europe with numerous appearances on Radio & TV. Much of his work up until his retirement from touring, has been in Scandinavia, particularly Denmark and Norway, where he built up a large following with his unique style and delivery.
Having started out as a folk-musician on the Folk club scene in the UK, Jim started to make a name for himself, playing traditional and contemporary Irish Music around the UK. He became a regular performer at festivals and music venues over the years, and at one time was described by the Irish Post, as "one of the most sought-after acts on the Irish Music Circuit.
In 1994 he was invited to perform in Norway, with his band Madra Rua, and thus began a long relationship with Scandinavian audiences. For a number of years, Jim would spend nearly half of the year touring venues in Denmark and Norway.
A prolific song-writer, as well as a performing musician, Jim has recorded over a dozen CDs during his career.
In the last couple of years Jim has been turning his musical skills to working on CDs of Mantras, Relaxation and Meditation/Spiritual Music and Sound Healing.
Jim is now once again taking the stage performing as a solo artist and occasionally with Nigel Mason on Whistles and Bodhran, and also reuniting with Ian Thomas & Kate Ronconi as Madra Rua.
