Utah Odia community is organizing this annual event of festive celeberations from past 5 years now . This is a platform where the family members of Utah odia community showcase cultural presentations from the state of Odisha ( India) and also put together fun programs for all age groups . The annual event is organized on the occasion of “Kartik Purnima” India. This is significant festival celebrated after “Diwali” in Odisha .
Every year the day of Kartika Purnima (the full moon day in the month of Nov) marks the day that the seafaring traders from Odisha province of India departed for the Indonesian islands of Bali as the trade wind starts blowing in the southeast direction. The trade-in commodities also led to the interchange of ideas and beliefs, Odia merchants formed settlements in Bali and influenced its culture and ethics. To commemorate this historic and auspicious day, the people of Odisha gather in large numbers in colorful attire to celebrate their glorious maritime history. The Kartik Purnima is also considered an auspicious day in Hindu Religion and is celebrated throughout India in many different ways.
