Unwelcomed: Discussion

The Fair Housing Center of Central Indiana (FHCCI), in partnership with the Fort Wayne Metropolitan Human Relations Commission and the Fort Wayne Urban League, is hosting Unwelcomed: A Fair Housing History of Sales & Lending Discrimination, an interactive exhibit, from September 28 through October 27, 2024.

The free exhibit will be open to the public and will educate participants on the systemic barriers that have impacted today’s neighborhoods through redlining, racial covenants, steering, neighborhood intimidation, and other forms of housing discrimination. Modern-day forms of housing discrimination in sales and lending will also be highlighted.

The two-sided 12 panel exhibit, Unwelcomed, will be located at the Fort Wayne Urban League, 2135 Hanna Street, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46803. New to this exhibit for Fort Wayne residents are six additional panels focused on Fort Wayne with specific historical context and modern-day data to complement the original exhibit.

In addition to the exhibit, a discussion will be held at the Fort Wayne Urban League on October 10, 2024, from 2:00pm - 4:00pm. Amy Nelson, Executive Director of the FHCCI, will speak about historical and contemporary housing discrimination in the U.S. including inequities featuring Fort Wayne. This talk will also spotlight information featured in the exhibit as well as updated demographics and modern-day disparities. Attendance for the discussion is limited to the first 100 people to register.
