In 1902, while working at the Perseverance Gold Mine in Boulder, young footballer and captain of the Mines Rovers football club, Victor Watts tragically lost his life in a rock fall. Later that year, a match between the Mine Rovers and Warriors was played, with proceeds devoted to a fund for a headstone to honour “poor old Watts.”Now, more than a century later, the Eastern Goldfields Historical Society is proud to announce the placement of a headstone on Victor’s grave — a long-awaited tribute to one of Boulder’s early sporting figures.
Please join us for the unveiling ceremony at the Old Boulder Cemetery, followed by morning tea.
Mines Rovers players and supporters are encouraged to wear their team colours in honour of Victor.
