In the summer of 1974, singer-songwriters Nick Drake and Syd Barrett both made their final ill-fated ventures into a recording studio. As far as we know, they never met, but what would’ve happened if their paths had crossed?
In his latest book, which is a work of fiction, Unsung : Unsaid: Syd and Nick in Absentia, music author and journalist, Rob Chapman, imagines a parallel universe where Nick and Syd had a series of encounters in London.
These meetings reveal much about the inner life of each man during that troubled late stage of their respective careers.
To find out more, come to Chapter Two and listen to Rob, who wrote the definitive Syd Barrett biography, Syd Barrett: A Very Irregular Head, and was the singer in post-punk band, Glaxo Babies, talk to local journalist, Sean Hannam, about the concept behind his latest book.
He will also share his thoughts on Nick and Syd’s lives and careers.
Copies of Unsung : Unsaid: Syd and Nick in Absentia will be available to buy on the night, and Rob will sign them.
There will also be live music from Jimmy Murphy.
This event has been organised to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Nick Drake’s death – he died on November 25, 1974.
