Are you a pre-med student living in Southern Nevada? Do you want to know more about UNR's School of Medicine, about what our admissions committeee is looking for in your application, and how to successfully prepare to thrive as a medical student?
The Admissions team and current medical students from the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine (UNR Med) will be in Las Vegas on Saturday, April 27. We invite you to spend the day with us to learn more our school's vision, mission and values and to participate in valuable workshops about how to successfully navigate the medical school application process. Sessions include:
- What UNR Med Seeks: An overview of what the admissions committee assesses when reviewing your medical school application.
- Why Competencies Matter: Learn how to make your application shine by developing and demonstrating your professional competencies in your personal statement, secondary essays, your activities list, and letters of evaluation.
- The Student Perspective: A panel discussion with current medical students who left homes, friends and family in Southern Nevada to pursue their medical education at UNR. All questions welcome about medical school, the application process, and the pros and cons of living in Northern Nevada.
- The Metrics of Admissions: A candid discussion about how and why GPA and MCAT are used in UNR Med's selection process and the limitations of grades and test scores in predicting admission. Includes guidance and resources for demonstrating academic readiness beyond the metrics; preparing for MCAT and tips on when to retake MCAT or how to repair GPA, and when to consider a post-bac.
