About this Event
There’s a whole lot of bullshit we need to unlearn if we’re going to fulfil our human potential.
So, this year College of Modern Anxiety is launching a new series at MayDay Rooms in London that we’re calling Unlearn Bullshit! Each month, we’ll expose some different bullshit; delving into some of the most powerful critical ideas from the last 100 years of philosophy, and using CoMA’s playshop games to identify and root out bullshit’s influence on our thinking and behaviours.
The series will start with a session on (Artificial) Intelligence that will look at what thinking is, and why we’ve got so unused to it that we let big tech convince us that machines are thinking!
We’ll look at:
- the difference between problem solving and other kinds of thinking,
- why machines are incapable of thinking, and
- show that the only reason tech companies have been able to fool us into believing they can make machines think is that we’ve already been trained to think like machines ourselves.
We’ll also talk about the social nature of thinking, why to be able to think we’ve got to be able to live with ourselves, and Hannah Arendt’s argument that refusing to think gets us into a lot of political trouble.
