About this Event
Welcome to Unknown Errors, a creative talk event run by Ophelia Steele Davis and Yexabel Rivero to give a platform for Glasgow's creative community to open up about anxieties, issues and failings that exist within our community with the aim of bringing about positive change.
It all stemmed from trying to think of more ways to reach out to the design/creative community and spread some conversation around mental health. We want to address some of the issues that exist within various creative fields today which Ophelia had started to see come up over and over again in the support group she runs for creatives through the Glasgow Zine Library. So we set up a creative talk. Instead of the usual portfolio showcases, however, we ask our speakers to chat about when stuff went wrong, and how they coped with that. We find that this format cuts through the perfect picture image that Instagram, at times toxic, presents, which can result in unhealthy perceptions/pressures, especially on younger creatives who are just starting out.
Format wise, the event consists of three speakers giving short talks around 10 - 15 min before launching into a Q&A panel with all the speakers. This is a chance for those attending to bring up questions they themselves might have, and spark debate on topics such as mental health, stress, industry, failures, as well as others.
The tickets this time also have an option to add a donation of either £2.50 or £5. No one however should feel pressured to donate, and there is no expectation. This is just an opportunity for us to raise some extra money for local causes. This time donations raised will be going toward Govanhill Baths Community Trust.
This is our second year running these events and the project is still very much taking shape as we do them, but we hope to see many faces old and new there for a night of insightful shares, laughter and probs a Tennent's or two.
