About this Event
Working with clinicians Distinguished Prof. Allan McMurray (Emeritus Professor of Conducting, University of Colorado, Boulder) and Dr. Steven J. Capaldo (Associate Professor of Music Education and Conducting, University of Victoria), participants will engage in workshops on Friday with sessions including:
- Active Ensemble Listening and Diagnostic Processing
- Internalizing and Externalizing the Score
- Conducting Techniques
- Rehearsal and Teaching Approaches
On Saturday, participants will conduct the Naden Band of the Royal Canadian Navy, receive feedback by the clinicians firstly live in The Farquhar Auditorium, and then by reviewing the session on video. On Sunday, both clinicians will work with the participants in an extended live session with the Naden Band. Participants will have the opportunity to record material for an audition video if requested. Group reflective inquiry and journaling sessions led by the clinicians will also occur over the three days.
With a strong focus on both educator development and growth of artistry, this workshop is designed to examine and refocus the work undertaken on the podium, and explore improving both verbal and non-verbal communication within the large ensemble setting.
