Bridging Practicality & Academic Theory
International Academic Center for Taekwondo (iACT) and the University of Alberta Taekwondo Club are organizing and co-hosting a two-day TKD event on January 11th and 12th, 2025 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The event will celebrate University of Alberta Taekwondo Club’s 50th year and Yonsei University Taekwondo Club’s 70th year and (and the over 40 years of the Yonsei University - University of Alberta Taekwondo Clubs’ sisterhood relationship), and will also include to the 5th iACT International Academic Conference
The Saturday, January 11th portion will include 3 concurrent symposium workshops each hour from the morning to early afternoon on various aspects of Taekwondo (sparring strategies, ITF and WT competition kicking techniques, conditioning, poomsae, creative poomsae, demonstrating, refereeing, self-defense, etc.). The afternoon will consist of a Taekwondo Hanmadang-style tournament that includes sparring and poomsae as well as creative breaking competitions.
The Sunday, January 12th portion will be the iACT international academic conference on Taekwondo and martial arts, entitled “iACT International Academic Conference #5: Bridging Practicality & Academic Theory.” Scholar-researchers of Taekwondo from the ROK, USA, Poland, Germany, South Africa and Canada will present and discuss their current research on various topics on Taekwondo such as history, philosophy, education, leadership, health and wellness, exercise and sport medicine, growing Taekwondo communities in a national collegiate system, and Taekwondo as a traditional martial art and competitive sport.
