The Augustana University Office of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion is excited to invite you to a special event celebrating the legacy and impact of the “United Soul,” a group of Black and Indigenous students who, starting in 1968, advocated for greater representation on our campuses and within the curriculum at Augustana and Sioux Falls Colleges. On Friday, October 4, 2024, we will honor their contributions through two special moments:
1. United Soul Salon, 2:00-3:00 PM, Augustana University Morrison Commons Back Alley: A panel discussion featuring the original members of United Soul, reflecting on the history, activism, and ongoing influence of the group.
2. Affinity Space Unveiling/Dedication, 5:00 PM, Augustana University Solberg Hall: We will unveil a dedicated space in Solberg Hall that will serve as a place of reflection, connection, and inspiration for our students.
We would love for you to join us in this celebration of history, activism, and community. Your presence will help us honor the legacy of the “United Soul” and continue the work they began over 50 years ago.
