Join us on Senate House Hill outside Great St. Mary's Church at 3 PM on Saturday 10th May to celebrate Europe Day and call on our political leaders to unite in defence of democracy and freedom in Europe. The event will feature speakers from a range of organisations, who we will be announcing nearer the time.
Europe Day on 9th May marks the 75th anniversary of the presentation of the Schuman Declaration in 1950, which is the foundation document of today's European Union and the cooperation, solidarity, and lasting peace it seeks to establish.
This year is also the 80th anniversary of VE day (8th May) which marks the official end of World War 2 in Europe.
Sadly with the Russian invasion of Ukraine, war has returned to Europe. As the Trump administration in the USA turns its back on its allies, and indeed on democracy and the rule of law, Europe faces an uncertain future, with our hard-won democracy and freedom once again under threat.
Political leaders in Europe must unite to defend our shared values, most importantly by providing Ukraine with all the support - military, economic and political - they need to defend their country and force Russia to agree to a just peace. The democracies of Europe must cooperate and invest to ensure that Europe can defend itself from any threat.
The UK has a key role to play in this, and we will call on our MPs and the Government to choose Europe. We must repair the economic, political and social damage done to the UK by Brexit, and repair our relationship with our neighbours and closest allies. With each passing day rejoining the Single Market, and the EU, seems a better idea, so lets tell our political leaders to get on with it!
