About this Event
On view at Van Cortlandt House will be a selection of 18th and 19th c. handheld fans - beautifully carved, painted and decorated. As a group they present a remarkably comprehensive survey of early folding fans. Whether used for fashion, flirtation, or formal ceremony, these objects have long been tools of communication and beauty.
Exhibition opening is at noon with activities, light refreshments, and a statement from the exhibition Curator, John Carini. John has been a dedicated and expert volunteer working with the VCHM collection for over 20 years.
Regular museum admission applies. Tickets purchased for exhibition opening include a self-guided tour of the museum. Registration is suggested but not required. Donations are appreciated and help support our community and educational programming.
