Unearthing the Layers: Examining Collage by African American Female Artists

Come join us at Arcade Arts Nashville for an evening of celebrating African American female collage artists. Arcade Arts resident artist Ashley Mintz will do a presentation highlighting African American female artists who work solely in collage or who incorporate collage into their art practice. Following the presentation, participants will be invited to engage in an art-making activity inspired by the styles of these artists.

All supplies included. Light refreshments will be served. Seating is limited.

Ashley Mintz is a visual artist residing and creating in Nashville, Tennessee. Originally from Las Cruces, New Mexico, Mintz moved to Nashville to pursue songwriting. Shortly after moving, she became interested in the visual arts and changed her focus to learning how to paint.Mintz has had her original art used in the background of films and in solo and group exhibitions at places such as The Nashville International Airport (BNA), Vanderbilt Divinity School (Nashville, TN), The Customs House Museum (Clarksville, TN), the Frist Art Museum (Nashville, TN) and the Clemson Area African American Museum (Clemson, SC), among other places. She also has works in several library collections including a painting in the Metro Arts Lending Library collection in Nashville, TN and a collaborative book with her mother that she illustrated in three different libraries in their Special Collections. Mintz currently attends Tennessee State University where she is pursuing her Bachelor of Science degree in Studio Art. She uses art and writing as a way to inspire and encourage others in healing and growing, the same way art has done for her.
