It is always a treat when Ryan comes to town. He's a fantastic speaker and the work he does in sociology aligns with CFFC participant interests and values. In this interactive presentation, Ryan will introduce the concept "lifestance." He'll discuss why his team proposed this concept in their 2025 book, Unearthing Lifestance, and how they think this helps move forward scholarship on that which is "other to religion" (e.g., nonreligion, secularity, etc.).
Dr. Ryan T. Cragun is a husband, father, and empirical sociologist (in order of importance). His scholarship focuses on nonreligion, lifestances, and Mormonism. His research has been published in a variety of academic journals, such as: Journal for the Scientific Study of Religion, Sociology of Religion, and Social Science and Medicine. He's the author or editor of numerous books, including, Goodbye Religion: The Causes and Consequences of Secularization and Beyond Doubt: The Secularization of Society.
When he's not working, he's spending time with his wife and son, hiking, or tinkering with computers. Originally from Utah, he now lives in Florida and works at The University of Tampa.

To help with expenses for this event, we suggest a per-person donation for those not already supporting with a recurring monthly donation. That's $5 for local speakers and $10 for out-of-area speakers.
You can sign up for monthly emails with a summary of events. More at https://linktr.ee/cflfreethought

CFFC Educational Events are free and open to the public. Enjoy thought-provoking speakers, local freethought news, state/church activism, volunteer opportunities, and socializing. Come out to meet old friends and make new ones. Coffee and water will be available with snacks served during the social hour after the meeting so plan to stay a while.
CFFC has no membership dues, but we do have recurring expenses that keep the organization running. The largest expense are these monthly meetings (venue, equipment, speaker fees, travel, etc.).
If you share our values, care about the work we do, and find yourself able to contribute, here's a link for you. We love our monthly donors! www.cflfreethought.org/cfldonate
