Presenters' notes:"My full name is Lauren Hoppler and I'm studying Wildlife & Conservation Biology through UNH's Department of Natural Resources & the Environment. This presentation is for my community outreach project as part of my Conservation Behavior course.
My presentation is titled: New Hampshire's Hidden Rabbit: Conservation and Monitoring of the New England Cottontail
In this presentation, I will briefly describe three species of rabbits found in NH. I will then highlight the New England cottontail, which has been facing significant population declines due to habitat loss, fragmentation, and competition with the eastern cottontail. I'll explain current monitoring efforts and what community members can do to help, most notably through the creation of habitat and the reporting of sightings through UNH's NH rabbit report database.

You may have heard about coyotes snatching people's pets, or about coyote-wolf hybrids. But who really are the coyotes living among us in NH, and are they really as dangerous as people say? Join UNH Wildlife and Conservation Biology Senior Caroline Savage to delve into the ecology of this unique animal learn how they operate, and how to keep yourself and your animals safe. Topics discussed will include: How did they come to NH? How do they interact with human-altered landscapes? Do they really target people's pets as prey? Feel free to bring questions of your own, as there will be time for open discussion throughout the presentation.

This talk is specifically being done as an outreach project for my Conservation Behavior class. But, I have published multiple pieces on the canids of the United States including an article for UNH’s Inquiry student research journal, Maine Wolf Coalition newsletter, and have a piece in process for the Urban Naturalist. I will bring aspects from these research and writing experiences into the talk. I am in the Department of Natural Resources and the Environment."
