Understanding and Supporting Communication Discussion

Does your child or young person sometimes struggle with communicating or understanding how to communicate their emotions effectively?
About this Event

Communication is how we pass on and receive messages from other people. We may communicate through words, through noises (a whoop of celebration), through gestures or hand movements (a nod or a wave).

Children with communication difficulties may not understand what is being asked of them, leaving them frustrated and confused. They might have difficulties at home and school in following instructions, organising their work and expressing how they feel and what they need.

Our discussion sessions offer an introduction to the topic along with the chance to meet other families and share tips and ideas. They offer more time to chat than our workshops, so please do join the conversation. This is a safe space to share questions, worries and tips that have been working for you.

In this discussion session we will:

🟡Share strategies and ideas to help support communication

🟡Look at how communication difficulties impact other areas of children's lives.

🟡Have resources for you to make some visual supports to take home to use with your child.

The discussion sessions complement our "Understanding and Supporting" series of workshop and follow the same themes They are an ideal follow up if you have already attended the workshop and would like more time to chat about what you have learned, but will be equally as useful if you haven’t attended a workshop and just want to know more about understanding and supporting communication.

If you would like more in depth information, look out for the workshop events.

This session is for families with children aged 0 - 25. Your child doesn't need a diagnosis for you to attend.

This 2-hour session will be delivered at Our Community Base in Kingswood.

There is limited parking at the venue for blue badge holders. On street parking is available in the local area.

Tea and coffee will be provided, please let us know if you have any additional requirements.

This session is only available to residents of South Glos. Please book a maximum of 2 tickets per family.
