About this Event
Join us in celebrating the music of Erwin Schulhoff, Czech-Jewish composer of the early 20th century. While both his life and musical output were affected by the events of the Holocaust, each of his works ventures into new musical territories, incorporating jazz idioms and dada elements into music from the classical tradition. underStaffed will be performing a varied program of his works for assorted chamber ensembles, from solo piano to violin and cello duo to a trio consisting of flute, viola, and bass, and much more!
underStaffed is a 501c3 nonprofit collective of emerging musicians from the New York Metropolitan Area dedicated to the performance of works for chamber orchestra and small ensembles. underStaffed aims to perform in both conventional and unconventional venues, hoping to bring classical music to those who might not be as familiar with the genre. underStaffed also makes an effort to regularly program works by lesser-known creators, including both historically overlooked composers as well as up-and-coming contemporary composers.
The concert is organized by the Society for the History of Czechoslovak Jews with the support of the Bohemian Benevolent and Literary Association.
